Dear Editor,

If you are disillusioned and angry with the chaos coming out of Washington,

D.C. and want things to change, though you may feel powerless, you are

not. If you’re growing more uncomfortable with the creeping

authoritarianism in the U.S., stand up and demand that the Constitution be

followed. If you’re tired of feeling robbed when you roll your cart through

the checkout lane, understand that there is a way out. If you’re feeling

despondent over the proliferation of detention centers in the United States

where innocent people of color, including children, are being locked up

without due process, there are alternatives.

If this illegal war with Iran finds you standing at the pump, shaking the

nozzle vigorously to drizzle out every last drop of gas, don’t give up. If your

heart has broken too often when you read another story about struggling

families going hungry because of cuts to food assistance programs, you

have a voice. If you’re a farmer who is paying higher prices to raise your

crops because of tariffs, change is possible. And if you’ve read one too

many stories about ballrooms, self-adoring arches, or gilding the White

House with cheap gold, listen up!

You have a potent tool, literally in your hands, to shift the narrative: the

VOTE!

Elections are just around the corner. Melissa Strange and Charles Booker

are running on a platform to change things. Melissa is campaigning against

Ed Gallrein to become the Congressional Representative in Kentucky’s 4 th

District which includes Henry Co. Melissa resides in northern Kentucky.

She decided to stand up and is prepared to go to Congress to support us,

the working people of Henry Co. Charles Booker, a previous state

legislator, is running against Andy Barr to replace “missing-in-action” Mitch

McConnell in the Senate.

Melissa and Charles will fight to protect Medicare and Social Security; they

will address the entrenched horrors of racism in this country; they will vote

for safer communities; they will vote for term limits to end the cycle of

career politicians; they will defend the Constitution and our rights to privacy;

they will fight to reduce the costs of healthcare; they will restore programs

that feed hungry children; they stand for universal child care for working

parents; and, they will work to ban politicians from trading stocks or

becoming lobbyists. Charles Booker states in his platform, “Many Kentucky

families are falling off the cliff.” If anything, that is an understatement.

The Executive Committee of the Henry County Democratic Party officially

endorses Melissa Strange and Charles Booker in the elections on

November 3rd . We encourage you to join us! Please don’t tell yourself that

your vote doesn’t count. Don’t fall into the trap of many who proclaim, “I

stay out of politics.” Instead, vote like your Democracy depends on it,

because it does. It always has. The Founding Fathers wisely chose WE

THE PEOPLE as a guiding principle for their radical experiment 250 years

ago. That hasn’t changed.
